wakemexsoftly: five years gone

i still get a twinge in my chest during the summer. it's not bad. it's just remembering everything that i learned and everything i experienced at CTY.

i still can't articulate to any of my friends what CTY means to me.

tomorrow's the last day of session one. so tonight. . .

i'm blasting 'american pie' from my car.

i like you, i love you, i CTY you.

(Anonymous): Posts like those above

Posts like those above are why I didn't take my kid (nor myself) to Europe, haven't a vacation since DisneyWorld when the kid was 9, and don't have a subscription to the opera. Posts like those above are why my kid double-sessioned every summer, why I tell kids who worry that their parents won't let them to go to CTY to have their parents email me, why I've sent more money to JHU than I have put in my kid's college fund AND spent on the kid's college so far (out of cashflow) *combined.*

Yes, some parents who contemplate sending their kids off to CTY scour the web seeking information, and what is now years ago, when I was contemplating sending my kid off to CTY, I was one of those parents. Posts such as those above made it easy -- yes, easy -- to spend the money on CTY. Posts such as those above are the best advertising CTY has. Posts such as those above make me glad I sent the kid off, because my kid is not one to tell me, ever, "thanks for sending me."

And that's okay, because of posts like those above.
